Description of training activities:

Day 1: May 24, 2016

The training workshop started with welcoming the participants and introduction t all attendees by Dr. ATM Iqbal Anwar followed by clarification of training objectives by Dr. Shahed Hossain.  Afterwards, Dr. Rashidun Nessa (Director, Planning & Research, DGHS) gave her welcome speech to the participants. In her speech, she thanked icddr,b team to take such timely and important initiative to organize this training for health managers. She also heightened the importance of quality research and importance of evidence informed health policy making in Bangladesh. Dr. Kazi Shariful Alam (Director, Finance, DGHS) was also present in the inaugural session as chief guest. In his speech, he provided important directives to the health managers regarding financial management and proper utilization of allocated budget. After his speech, the training programme was launched by Dr. Abdur Razzak Miah (Director Health, Rajshahi division).

Day 2: May 25, 2016

The 2nd day of the training session started with a recap session facilitated by Dr. Aminur Rahman. After the short recap, scheduled sessions were conducted by respective facilitators as follow:

All the participants were extremely encouraged and motivated by the presentation on ‘Chougacha Model’ by Dr. Emdadul Haque. Mr. SK Aminur Rahman Khoka (Ex-chairman, Jhinaidaha Pourashava) was also present as a special guest and shared his valuable experiences in role of community participation in improving quality of health service delivery at local level.

Day 3: May 26, 2016

After the short recap, scheduled sessions were conducted by respective facilitators as follow:

A  closing ceremony followed by certificate distribution was arranged at the end of training sessions. Mr. MA Matin (DG, RDA), Dr. AKM Zakaria (Director, RDA), Dr. Sher Sadik Khan (Assistant Director, Planning, DGHS) and Dr. Abdur Razzak Miah (Director Health, Rajshahi division) was present in the closing ceremony. All the participants were highly impressed with the training. They stated that as health manager, the learning from this training would be  extremely beneficial for them in future planning and decision making.

 

At the end, Dr. Abdur Razzak Miah (Director Health, Rajshahi division) thanked the organizers and participants for the tremendous effort in organizing the training and concluded the session.

  1. Pre- and Post-test assessment:

Pre and post test was conducted to see the change in attainment of knowledge in participants. Total score was 20 and duration was 10 minutes.

  1. Course evaluation:

At the end of the course, an evaluation was conducted to perceive opinion of participants. Few comments from the participants are as follows:

  1. This three days session was good and would be very helpful
  2. This type of training a required earlier…may be 10 years back
  3. This training will help to make good manager
  4. All resource person were very efficient and talented
  5. The training could be made more palatable
  6. Observations/recommendations:
  7. As a number of participants  lack skills in operating computer, the session on literature search was bit difficult for them to follow.
  8. The duration of the session “Access to Information: DHIS2; COIA” should  be increased with more focus on practical session on use of the DHIS2 software.
