Each year, more than 28,000 babies are born with congenital heart disease in Bangladesh. Pulse oximetry can detect 75% congenital heart diseases among new borne. This findings stem from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) research “ Impact/Validity of pulse oximetry screening on the detection of duct dependent critical congenital heart disease in neonate” conducted by Dr. Md. Abdullah al Mamun, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Pediatric Cardiology, Dhaka Shishu Hospital. Planning & Research Unit of DGHS organized this “Research Dissemination Workshop” on March 31, 2016 at DGHS Conference room. Other research presentations were titled “Capacity Building of the Rural Medical Practitioners on Prevention and Control of Diabetes Mellitus” conducted by Dr. Kazi Jahangir Hossain, Associate Professor, Department of Health Education, NIPSOM, “Association of Pre-operative Serum albumin level and post operative clinical outcome in pediatric cardiac surgery” conducted by Dr. Manoz Kumar Sarker, Assistant Registrar (Cardiac Surgery), National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease and “Suicide in Bangladesh: Preventive Measures based on community made allusions to victims” conducted by Dr. Kazi Shafiqul Halim, Associate Professor, Department of Epidemiology, NIPSOM. The workshop was presided over by Dr. Monowara Sultana, Director, Alternative Medical Care, DGHS. She told how health research and dissemination of research findings can benefit health sector. Dr. A.M. Zakir Hussain, Senior Consultant, and Ex-Director, Primary Health Care, DGHS graced the workshop as the Chief Guest. On behalf of Dr. Rashidun Nessa, Director (Planning & Research), Dr. Sher Mostafa Sadik Khan, Assistant Director, Planning Cell, welcomed participants in the dissemination workshop. Dr. Md. Abul Hashim, Line Director, ESD, DGHS moderated the workshop. In closing remarks, Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Research Officer: Planning and Research of DGHS thanked all researchers and participants for their valuable feedback in research presentations. He briefed the participants about the Research to Policy Communication Cell (RPCC) within the DGHS which is an online portal and repository of relevant health evidence . European Union supported project of icddr,b is working with DGHS to strengthen RPCC as a point of contact and communicator of high quality evidence for health policy decision-making between DGHS and the research community.
